Special Needs Planning
Our Why
At The Time To Plan Is Now, our passion for providing education and answers around special needs planning is personal. Our drive stems from our individual, personal roles as parents and family members to individuals with disabilities. We and our team continue to be committed to providing essential planning resources, guidance, and solutions for special needs families.
The goal of special needs planning is to make sure that a family is able to provide for the care and well-being of their loved ones with disabilities in a way that enhances their lifestyle and capabilities but does not ever interfere with their eligibility for any necessary government benefits and supports – all while simultaneously planning for the long and fruitful life of the parents and caregivers, as well as for any additional children and siblings.
Over the past several years, the team has embraced opportunities to leverage technology and empower the special needs community with planning strategies, including:
- Complimentary virtual consultations with families, through online meeting platforms that allow for the sharing of materials and the facilitation of teamwork
- Informational webinars, both for families as well as professionals
- Presentations to corporations through Employee Resource Groups
This website is the next step in this development and is intended to be an interactive and fluid resource for all who support the special needs community.
(NOTE: We are also aware that the term "special needs" has come under increasing scrutiny over the years. Many families and individuals are clear that, for them, their needs are basic and human and not "special" or different," and as such they would prefer not to use that phrasing to describe themselves or their loved ones.
We accept those sentiments and affirm that this terminology is challenging and problematic for all of those reasons and more. However, "Special Needs Planning" is the standard, most commonly accepted and understood term used to describe the type of financial and legal planning that is done to secure the future for an individual with a disability. "Disability Planning" is something else entirely, and we would not want to use that or to start using new phrasing that could otherwise confuse our audience or the general public.
We hope everyone understands this decision, and we mean no disrespect or disregard to anyone. Grace and peace - ZZ)

We are really experienced in doing this
We have our personal stories to tell of our own children and older family members.
We also have met with thousands of families who have their own story to tell.
There is consistency in the concerns.
- How do we provide safety and well-being for our loved ones now and in the future?
- How do we address the financial stressors of our special needs family?
- What is going to happen when we are no longer here?
These critical questions and more can linger for years waiting for solutions and answers.

We are committed to working with the special needs and disability community
There are a minority of well trained and experienced special needs financial planners throughout the United States.
A large segment of the financial planning profession have ignored this population in our country.
We are committed to our community because of personal experience.
We have always realized that there is a need for quality service and financial knowledge and insight.
In our community this area is under serviced.
The quality of life for all special needs family members is being challenged because of a lack of understanding of benefits and financial planning strategies that are available to them.
As financial special needs planners (CHSNC) our team approach is to educate, guide, and implement a financial strategy that maximizes opportunities and resources for a quality of life for the rest of their lives.
